New Members/First Time Attendees luncheon Message-ID: Dear SIG Officers, The New Members/First Time Attendees luncheon program at the upcoming ASIS&T Annual Meeting is fast approaching. As noted in prior emails to each of you, we are scheduled to gather on Sunday, November 2nd, at 12:00 noon at the conference hotel (exact room will be in the final schedule). We are asking ONE representative from each (non-virtual) Special Interest Group to attend this program. The representative will be asked to give a ?one-minute summary? of why an attendee might be interested in that SIG. I will keep you to that one minute, in a nice, friendly way. You will have the remainder of the luncheon to chat with attendees at your table (one table per SIG) to promote your SIG. Right now, we have 5 confirmed representatives: for SIG HLTH, IFP, KM, USE and MET. IF you want to attend, please let Tricia(pbradshaw1 at yahoo.com) know by Friday, October 24th. We will have a check-in sheet at the door to this event (space is limited, which is why we have to limit representatives), with the names of each representative on that list. All other attendees (the new members/first time folk) have tickets to attend. Also, we still need a few more PowerPoint slides. Currently, the following SIGs have turned in their slides ? ED, DL, III, KM, MET, IFP, VIS, AH, USE. If you are not listed, then we do not have your slide. The slideshow will be running throughout the program as a publicity feature. SIGs may bring things to hand out ? flyers, buttons, bookmarks, pens, whatever your heart desires. The handouts are to be distributed at your table. This program is sponsored by the Membership Committee of ASIS&T. If you have any questions, ideas, concerns, etc., please let us know. Thanks. Sincerely, Michael Leach, Chair, Planning Group for the New Members/First Time Attendees program Tricia Bradshaw, Member, Planning Group Xin Wang, Member, Planning Group -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: The ASIST annual meeting time is almost here! Looking forward to seeing you all in Seattle. Some important SIG reminders and announcements: The SIG Cabinet meeting is scheduled for 8:30 am on Sunday November 2nd (you?ll get to turn your clocks back 1 hour because of daylight savings time ? so this isn?t as early as it seems!) Be sure that one person attends to represent your SIG! Some SIGs elect Cabinet representatives, if your SIG doesn?t that is not a problem. This is what the manual has to say on the issue: ?if neither the Cabinet Representative nor Alternate representative is in attendance an automatic chain of command for representation takes effect: Chair, Chair-elect, Secretary-Treasurer.? Note: You are not required to send an officer (but it is ideal if you do). This is a call for SIG Cabinet meeting agenda items. Please send those to klabarre at illinois.edu We'll be sending the agenda and the slate of Cabinet officers for the election at the SIG Cabinet officers at our meeting on Sunday November 2nd. SIG Planning sessions are scheduled Monday November 3 and Tuesday November 4 th. [Remember to submit names/emails of SIG elected and appointed officers] Message-ID: Greetings, Thanks to those SIGs who have already completed your elections. We'll be checking in during SIG roll call at the Cabinet meeting on Sunday to see who has completed, and who is conducting their elections (or has open positions). Please take a moment to enter your new officers in the following form - so we can keep sig-l (for elected officers) and the ASIST website up to date: http://www.asis.org/SIG/sigofficers.html For those SIGs who will conduct elections at ASIST please keep the following in mind: Most SIGs have only two elected positions - chair and chair elect. The rest are appointed positions. Please don't hesitate to ask any members of the SIG cabinet if you have questions or concerns about SIG elections! Recommended protocol is as follows: *Nominations eight weeks prior to the annual meeting (Week of September 8th)* Candidates for SIG officers should be nominated by a standing committee consisting of the SIG chair and two other SIG members appointed by the chair. The committee should prepare the ballot, with at least two nominees for each office to be filled. Nominations from the membership should be encouraged, but must follow the procedures outlined in the SIG's bylaws. Generally, these rules require that names be submitted by petition signed by at least ten members of the SIG and received by the chair at least eight weeks prior to the SIG's annual planning meeting. *Elections 6 weeks prior to the annual meeting (Week of September 26th)* All SIGs should hold their elections at least six weeks prior to the annual SIG planning meetings, which are held in conjunction with the ASIS Annual Meeting. Early elections provide new officers the opportunity to begin generating ideas for the following year and to make necessary plans to assure their attendance at the all-important planning meeting. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
