LIDA 2018 will take place during June 13-15, 2018 in Zadar, Croatia, a charming Mediterranean town located on the Adriatic coast. This year’s theme is "Social Justice, Community Engagement and Digital Libraries: Access, Diversity, and Inclusion". LIDA is a forum for dissemination and discussion of critical and theoretical aspects of the theme as well as examination of best practices from the field, and practitioner perspectives and applications. The Student Showcase, held in conjunction with the main conference, provides an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to present and dicuss their projects and research with senior researchers and other students in relatively informal setting. LIDA 2018 Outstanding Student Award is given to the student work of outstanding quality presented at the Student Showcase session. All topics within the main LIDA 2018 call are acceptable as topics for the Student Showcase: • How to empower people in all walks of life • Designing for diversity, inclusivity, equitable and flexible use • Community needs assessment for design and development • Understanding and developing services for underserved / marginalized groups • Community building, activism and citizenry • Inequities, questions of privilege, power, and social control • Human rights • Critical approaches • Creating inclusive spaces • Systems, structures and architecture for design and development in the context of social justice and community engagement • Transforming from provider-led agencies to community-led agencies of social change • Social justice, archives and preservation • International perspectives / research on social justice and community engagement • Developing countries and preservation of indigenous knowledge • Information organization / metadata / search algorithms for diversity, inclusivity, and flexibility • Diverse cultural contexts, religious, political and value systems • Pedagogy for social justice • Virtual communities affording access to different stakeholders • Collection development for diversity and inclusion • Intellectual freedom, information ethics • Information literacy • Reflective assessment of best practices from the field, as related to conference theme Award is presented to the author(s) of the best paper written by a full time undergraduate or graduate student(s), or recent graduates (within 12 months of graduation) who are presenting their thesis work. The deadline for nominations (in the form of extended abstract) is February 25, 2018. All submissions should follow formal LIDA instructions for Student Showcase proposal available at (http://ozk.unizd.hr/lida/submissions/#phd) and be submitted via EasyChair system. All submissions undergo a double blind review. Students will be notified of the acceptance of their submission by March 1, 2018. At least one registered author must present their work at the conference. As a part of submission, students should provide a short letter of recommendation from academic advisor and official confirmation of the student's full-time status, or the date of graduation from educational institution. Award decisions are made onsite at LIDA conference, following the presentation, by an Awards Committee formed among selected members of the Program Committee based on the set criteria (scientific originality and quality, relevance of the study, research design, contribution to the field, presentation skills, ability to answer questions, etc.). An award includes a plaque for the author(s) and a honorarium of $500. In case of multiple authorship, a honorarium will be shared. The winner will be announced at the LIDA 2018 Closing Session. If no paper meets the criteria above, then no award need be given. Winners will be invited to prepare a full paper, based on their work, for Libellarium: Journal for the research of writing, books and cultural heritage institutions. Full-text manuscript should be sent by June 1, 2018.
